This tutorial will guide you through exporting images so that they can be used with other programs. At the end of the tutorial we will cover why Funtastic Photos works this way.
Saving Images
- If you don't already have the image open, use the browser to find your image and open it. Once it is open select "Export..." from the "File" menu on the menubar.
- This will open the "Export" dialog, which looks like the below (except your picture will be different).
- This dialog has quite a few options on how to save your image, such as the image size, image quality and importantly image format. Most other programs can read and write JPEGs, PNGs or TIFFs. For this tutorial we'll use JPEG. So in the format menu under the heading "Image File", choose "JPEG image", like below.
- Click the "Save" button in the bottom right hand corner of the dialog. A standard save file dialog will appear and allow you to specify where your file is saved.
Copying And Pasting Images
- You can also use the clipboard to transport images between applications, simply select "Copy" from either the "Edit" menu on the menubar, or from the popup menu when clicking on "Copy" button on the toolbar.
- Then paste into the other program.
Why can't you use Funtastic Photos .FunPhoto files with other programs?
We decided to create own file format so that images could be "Rewound to Original" at any time. Our file format allows us to maintain the original image data perfectly and all the changes that you make. If we used something like JPEG, TIFF, PNG or others you wouldn't be able to Rewind your changes once you have saved. We also explored backup routines, but in the end felt that keeping the original image data with the Funtastic data was a safer solution.
