Password Encryption

This feature allows you to choose whether to encrypt all passwords. There are 2 encryption schemes supported:

  1. HITEK – very simple encryption scheme compatible with 5.x/6.x.
  2. JAVA – new encryption scheme which uses java cryptography.

Java Key:

This key is used for the JAVA encryption scheme. If the Java Key field is blank or ‘default’, then this encryption scheme uses a default key to encrypt all your passwords with.

IMPORTANT: If you change this key, you will have to edit and resave all your passwords!!!

IMPORTANT: If you lose/forget this key, you will get locked out of the user interface if the user interface password is set!!!

VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure the user interface password is cleared before changing this key. After changing this key value, you can set the user interface password again.

NOTE: If you change this key, your passwords can only be used on the current machine. If you move the software (and settings) to a new machine,  you will have to enter this same key into this field on the new machine.

NOTE: The advantage of using your own key is that if your data is stored on another system, then no one else on the other system can use your passwords even from our software. They will have to know this key value.
