Automatic Exclusions

Synk automatically excludes a number of items that aren’t necessary. This helps performance, and in some cases is necessary for bootable backups or other special circumstances.

Any item with one of the following names is excluded:

Items with one of the following paths relative to a volume root are excluded:

Everything inside directories with one of the following paths relative to a volume root is excluded:

Any files only inside directories with one of the following paths relative to a volume root are excluded:

Any items whose subpath ends with one of the following are excluded:

Additionally, several locations are automatically excluded for compatibility with third-party applications that do dubious things like store cache or temporary data outside of the system-defined cache and temporary areas. As a professional courtesy, we won’t name those here.
